Terms of Service

Welcome to SlowTV. These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and SlowTV (“SlowTV”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) and govern your use of the SlowTV websites, the parent portal, our mobile and TV applications, and the related products, content, and services we offer (together, the “Services”).

Please read these Terms carefully. By creating an account, pairing a device, or otherwise accessing or using the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services. Section 16 (Dispute Resolution) includes an agreement to resolve most disputes through binding individual arbitration and a waiver of class actions — please read it carefully.

1. The Services

SlowTV is a calm, channel-based “like TV used to be” experience for young children. A parent or guardian configures a small set of curated channels in the parent portal; on a paired device the child simply watches, changing channels but never browsing, searching, switching apps, or leaving the experience. The Services may also include original SlowTV stories, personalized stories or household videos, and a Family Assistant for grown-ups. We are continually improving the Services and may add, change, or remove features over time.

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, and revocable license to download and use our applications on devices you own or control, and to use the Services, solely for your own personal, non-commercial family use.

2. Eligibility and parent responsibility

You must be at least eighteen (18) years old and the parent or legal guardian (or an adult authorized by them) of any child for whom you set up SlowTV. SlowTV is intended to be configured and supervised by an adult; the child-facing screen is not an account and is not intended for a child to set up on their own.

You are responsible for the children in your care who use a device you pair, for the content and channels you configure for them, and for supervising their use of the Services consistent with their age and your judgment.

3. Accounts, sign-in, and device pairing

To manage SlowTV you create a parent account and sign in to the parent portal using a one-time email code or a linked sign-in provider. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your account secure. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, including changes to channels, content, schedules, and limits.

You add a device to your account by entering the short, one-time pairing code the device displays. The device is linked to your account, not to a child profile. Keep your pairing codes and account credentials confidential, and notify us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your authorization.

4. Communications

By creating an account and providing your contact information, you agree to receive communications from us, such as operational messages about your account, security alerts, and service updates. We may also send optional product news; you can opt out of these at any time using the unsubscribe link in the message. You may not opt out of essential service communications while you maintain an account.

5. The Family Assistant (AI feature)

The Services include a Family Assistant — an AI-powered chat for parents and guardians only, never shown on the child’s screen. It can recap what played on your devices, explain your current settings, and make control changes that you approve before they take effect.

The Family Assistant is provided for convenience and general information only. Its responses are generated by AI and may be incomplete, inaccurate, or out of date, and it is not professional advice of any kind. You remain responsible for the settings and approvals you make. Your use of the Family Assistant is subject to our Privacy Policy, including how we process and share the messages and related data needed to operate the feature.

6. Your content and configuration

SlowTV lets you build channels and, in some cases, add or personalize content (for example, your own media, a personalized story, or a household video). You retain ownership of the content you provide (“Your Content”). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt, process, and display Your Content solely as needed to operate and provide the Services to you and the children in your care.

You represent that you own or have all necessary rights to Your Content and to configure it for playback, and that Your Content does not infringe anyone’s rights or violate any law. You are solely responsible for Your Content and for ensuring it is appropriate for the child who will see it.

7. Acceptable use

When using the Services, you agree not to:

• Use the Services for any unlawful, harmful, or fraudulent purpose, or in a way that could harm a child.
• Upload or configure content you do not have the right to use, or that is infringing, obscene, or otherwise inappropriate for children.
• Attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse engineer, decompile, or circumvent the security or kiosk protections of the Services or any device.
• Access the Services using automated means, scrape or harvest data, or interfere with other users or our infrastructure.
• Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Services without our written permission.

8. Children’s use and supervision

SlowTV is designed so the child-facing experience is touch-light, parent-shaped, and free of browsing, search, recommendations, and ads. The back gesture does not exit playback; only a parent unlock does. Even so, no software replaces adult supervision. You are responsible for choosing appropriate content and limits and for supervising the child’s use. We describe how we protect children’s privacy in our Privacy Policy.

9. Premium plans and billing

SlowTV is free to use with content you curate yourself. Premium features and paid channels are still in development. If we offer paid plans in the future, the price, billing cycle, and cancellation terms will be shown clearly before you are charged, and any subscription terms presented at checkout will supplement these Terms. Unless required by law or stated otherwise, fees are non-refundable. There are no ads on SlowTV, on free or paid plans.

10. Intellectual property

The Services, including our software, original stories, designs, logos, and other materials we provide (excluding Your Content), are owned by SlowTV or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the limited license granted in these Terms, we reserve all rights. You may not use our names, logos, or branding without our prior written permission.

11. Third-party content and services

The Services may rely on or link to third-party services (such as a sign-in provider, payment processor, or AI technology provider) and may let you configure third-party content. We are not responsible for third-party services or for content you choose to add, and your use of them may be subject to their own terms and policies.

12. Disclaimers

The Services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any content will be available at all times. You use the Services at your own discretion and risk.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SlowTV and its affiliates, officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, goodwill, or profits, arising out of or relating to your use of the Services. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Services will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the Services in the twelve (12) months before the claim or one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SlowTV and its affiliates from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your misuse of the Services, your violation of these Terms, or Your Content.

15. Termination

You may stop using the Services and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Services. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including content licenses you granted, disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, and dispute resolution) will survive.

16. Dispute resolution and governing law

Most concerns can be resolved quickly — please contact us first and we will try to resolve the issue informally. If we cannot, you and SlowTV agree that any dispute relating to these Terms or the Services will be resolved by binding individual arbitration rather than in court, except that either party may bring qualifying claims in small-claims court. To the extent permitted by law, you and SlowTV waive any right to a jury trial and to participate in a class or representative action.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, except where applicable law requires otherwise. Where arbitration is not permitted, the state and federal courts located in New York will have exclusive jurisdiction. Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable rights you have under the law of your place of residence.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Services evolve. When we make material changes we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised Terms. The current version always lives on this page.
